I am now living in Tampere for over 2 months and I haven´t been to sauna just until last week (shame on me)! So my friends from Luxembourg and me decided to go to a real sauna with real finnish guys and ice swimming afterwards.
What should I say?! It was the most extreme experience I have made until now. The average temperature was around 115 degrees but as the finns are real masochists, they pushed the sauna, from time to time, up to 125 degrees, which was really crazy. It felt like you would burn while being alive.
After sitting in the sauna for around 15 minutes to half an hour, we just went outside in the snow and walked to the little lake. I made one big mistake in the begining, I was waiting to long, standing in the water, instead of just jumping into it. Hoffmann and Carneiro, they did it and I was just waiting for them in the snow. After the ice swimming you should just wait a little bit outside in the snow, so that your body can recover and you don´t just switch from one extreme to the other.
After 5 minutes we went back to the sauna again and the second time I was also jumping in the lake and it was the most painful thing I have ever felt. It feels like millions of little lightennings run through your body or like someone would stab you with a knife again and again. We just stayed a few seconds in the water and we repeated the whole ritual again 2 times.
I think saunaing and ice swimming is an experience you will never forget and I am really looking forward to going to this happening again.

After Carneiro and Hoffmann arrived in Tampere we very fast made up the plan to visit the capital of Finland. On the 05.03.2010, after I overslept (2nd or 3rd time in my life) , we finally hit the road around 11 o´clock.
The drive to Helsinki was not that interesting so that´s why I´m going to skip it. Arriving in the city we were searching for a free and gratis parking-lot but Finland doesn´t seem to support cars in the cities and that´s why we had to pay 8 euros for a few hours (after seven the parkin lots are for free).
We immediately went to the Kauppatori (market place), next to the port, where we bought the karjalanpiirkka. We hadn´t really a plan what we should do or visit so we just started to walk. And that´s how it looks like when 3 luxembourgish guys are walking through Finland´s capital:
Next posts will be about the real great meal we had in Kappeli and the sauna/ice water swimming.

After 4 days, my good old friend Eric took the plane back to Luxembourg a few hours ago. At first I want to thank you (Eric) very much because you came up here to visit me! Second I want to thank you that I could sleep for 3 nights in a real comfortable bed (Paying for a single room and getting a double room rocks!) and for the coffees. I hope that you had a bit fun up here and that you are coming back again in April, as you said.
Yesterday we went to the Pyynikki park, which lays between the Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärv lakes, and it was just amazing, one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life. What made me even more happy was that I shared it with you, Eric. Everything fitted this day in the parc, the lake was frozen, the sun was just going down and there were no people, so this experience will last forever!
Unfortunately we haven´t been to the Pyynikki Tower which offers a splendid general view of Tampere but who knows maybe we meet again up here.
After this wonderful experience we went for a coffee and met again in the evening to make a little party and arguing about the inexistence of dinousaurs…
Thx again dude!!
