Finnish people have the same attitude towards drinking as luxembourgish people have. Not a healthy one! But as beer is really disgusting up here (or am I just accustomed to better one?) in Finland, people just experiment with the hard stuff. During one of these experiments one finn has discovered an awesome drink which is now known as “Fisu”

To cut a long story short, “Fisu” tastes like/is a mixture of vodka and Fishermen´s Friend and that´s why a lot of locals as well as students mix their own.
Here is a real good recipe:
- Buy one bottle of Vodka (75 cl and min. 37%) and 3 packs of white Fishermen´s Friend.
- Pestle all the pastilles and fill them into the bottle of Vodka.
- Deposit the bottle in the freezer. After a few hours (+/- 3) you can serve the ice cold drink in shots.
Kippis!
Be careful! Your best friend can very fast turn into your worst enemy…

During the trip to Helsinki, my friends and me went to a very nice restaurant called Kappeli. At first we had no clue what to order but it was sure that we wanted to try something new, something finnish. After a view minutes we had made our decisions:
Poronkäristystä Kappelin tapaan
Sautéed Reindeer Rowanberry Sauce, Mached Vegetables, Lingonberries, Prickled Cumcumber
Kananpoikaa
Spring Chicken Dark Currant Sauce, Sweetened Apple, Goat Cheese Risotto
Hirvenmurekepihvi
Elk Meat Cutlet Grand Veneur Sauce, Root Vegetable Hash, Rowanberry Jelly
If you are going to Helsinki, I can recommend you this restaurant with an nice atmosphere and real good food.

I tried the Karjalanpiirakka (engl. karelian pasties) in Helsinki and as so often here in Finland they were nearly flavorless which I don´t really like that much.

Salty liquorice (in finnish: salmiakki) is very popular in northern countries and as I am a big fan of “Absinthe anisé”, in fact you can compare the “anisé” taste to the liquorice taste, I had to try theese “sweets”.
I have to say that they are a real pain in the ass respectively in the theeth.
Furthermore I am a bit disappointed because they aren´t really salty and you can compare them to normal liquorice.
Maybe I´am going to buy another brand to see if they keep what they promise…
